On today's Tech Talk, Sam and Chase recommend 3 different ways to make sure you are backing up your important documents. These three are: Remote backup, External drive backup and External disk back up. For very important documents and files, you might want to consider using more than one of these ideas in combination - redundancy is very important! Finally, consider what would happen to your files and backup solution if your home were damaged by a fire, or flood - would you lose all of your data, and if so, would this be a disaster for you? While it might sting a little to lose .mp3 files, and video game saves, it would be much worse to lose tax records, cherished letters, important work files, school work and financial documents. It is a good idea to back up these uber-important files to a remote location at least once a month. You can do this by using one of the remote services listed below, or by backing up your files to an external DVD or Cd, and storing these off site.

It’s better late than never. Free online backup has become the buzzword now with a slew of services out there offering huge gigs of space to store your critical data. This will add the much-needed zing to your data backup strategies.
As you said it’s better to back up uber-important files like tax records and office files to a remote location. Once they were safely stored there, even if your house burns down, you can still retrieve the data from the online location whenever you need it. Most of these free online backup services allow you to access your online account, view the details and restore any file you want with a simple copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop from anywhere with a computer connected to the Internet.
I’ve scheduled my backups using a wizard so that they won’t interfere with my Internet operations. The backups are fast, efficient and smooth. They are also incremental, which means only the portions that have changed since the last back up are transferred. I can always check whether the app has finished the task or not. There is a provision to view versions and restore any version I want to my PC easily. You can also search for files and restore the particular file you want.
All data transfer is safe as it is first encrypted with a private encryption key stored on the user's computer. Then 128-bit SSL is used to transmit all data to and from our servers. IDrive-E also provides 256-bit AES encryption on storage.
